I've been asked what is there to do on Vashon/Maury, well
here's a list of some of things you might be interested in doing
during your stay at Maury Cottage:

Location
Maury Cottage is located a mile from Vashon's delightful
Point Robinson lighthouse.  From there you can keep an eye
out for seals and Orcas while testing your trekking abilities
scrambling over the ever changing piles of drift wood.

Arts
Vashon Island and its close neighbor Maury are home to
many successful arts that have been producing beautiful
works of art for decades.  This eclectic group of talented
individuals includes:

•  Andrew Kim - Puppeteer,
• Israel Shotridge - Tinglit Carver,
• Christina Nichols - Pastels and Prints, 
• Barabara Dusty-Gustafson - Basketry
• and many, many more. 

Galleries abound on Vashon/Maury.  Each month a number of
galleries participate in the First Friday Gallery Cruise. 

And don't
miss the biannual Artist's tour when the island's artists throw
open the doors to their studios for you to browse, explore,
appreciate, and acquire wonderful art and jewelry.

Sports
Bike riding is popular on Vashon/Maury.  As a whole, the area
has been given a social to moderate rating by many bike clubs. 
One avid biker makes a compelling case for this unique ride,
and describes the 'the magic enchanted way', which
coincidentally starts only a mile from the cottage!

For those less experienced riders you can rent bikes at
Vashon Island Bicycles.  And for you fit moutain bikers
Maury is home to the Dockton Trails.  Or make a weekend
out of it; Vashon on Saturday and Maury on Sunday with
a restful and recuperative stay at Maury Cottage.

Motorcycle riding is also popular on Vashon/Maury as well.
The highlight of the year is the Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts TT,
an annual event since 1988. 
The date is SUPER secret - you must be a member of VME
to receive the announcements.  But if you do happen to be here
that weekend you'll see some of the most interesting and unique
bikes around. 

Everything you wanted to know about Kayaking on Vashon/Maury
can be found at Puget Sound Kayak Company.  They offer
classes, rentals, tours, special events, and trip planning.  And
don't worry about your skill level they have tours for beginners
through advanced.  Being a true beginner the Gunkholing
Quartermaster Harbor trip is just my speed and very, beautiful.

   Now if fishing is what baits your hook you're going to
want to contact Brad at Onco Sportfishing and Guide Services.
Any month from February to October you can find good fishing.
And you can cook your catch in your kitchen at Maury cottage
or barbeque it on the cottage's private patio.
